The Puget Sound Institute is pleased to welcome Nicole Faghin as a Visiting Scholar at the Center for Urban Waters. Faghin serves as a Coastal Management Specialist at Washington Sea Grant, and will act as a bridge between the two organizations, strengthening and developing potentials for collaboration. She will also coordinate the third National Working Waterfronts and Waterways Symposium in Tacoma scheduled for March 25 – 28, 2013, which is co-sponsored by the Center for Urban Waters. Read more
The Center for Urban Waters welcomes nine interns to kick off the second year of its summer internship program. Internships will include collaborations with several Puget Sound area organizations and programs, including the Puget Sound Institute, the Washington Stormwater Center, the Joint Institute of the Study of the Atmosphere and Ocean, and SoundCitizen. Projects will range from mapping and GIS work, to environmental chemistry and research into green building technologies. Interns are either currently enrolled students, or have recently graduated and will earn required college credits, and/or income.
Earlier this month, the Puget Sound Institute and Puget Sound Partnership brought together conservation practitioners from around the region to share information about the use of Open Standards, CAP and the practice of adaptive management in the Puget Sound region. Read more
A recent paper by Center for Urban Waters Distinguished Scholar in Residence Usha Varanasi discusses the decline in America’s baseline ability to use science to plan for and assess highly likely environmental disasters, such as oil spills.
